At ACESGroup, we have always been a leader in combining operational expertise with cutting-edge technology. Our point of difference is clear: we do not just use technology — we build it. Across every division, from frontline operations to corporate services, our bespoke software tools are transforming how we work, improving safety, efficiency, and decision-making in real time.
Our technology is not solely for internal use; it is proven, commercial-grade innovation trusted by clients and organisations across Australia and internationally.
ACESGroup is not a guard supply company with technology in the background — we are a technology innovation company with a high-tech guarding division. We are shaping the future of the security industry by integrating people, systems, and smart technology to deliver safer, more connected environments.
At ACESGroup, innovation is part of how we speak, teach, and operate, and we are seeking team members who wish to develop and grow with us.
Role Overview
ACESGroup is seeking a Technical Development Leader (Engineering, Architecture & Operations) to take ownership of architecture, engineering standards, platform reliability, and operational performance across the organisation.
As Technical Development Leader, you will lead and mentor development teams, own critical platforms and integrations, and ensure that systems are secure, cost-efficient, high-performing, and fit for real-world operational use. You will work closely with business and operational leaders to align technical execution with organisational objectives.
This is a hands-on leadership role combining architecture, engineering oversight, cloud operations, and support responsibility. It is not a purely managerial position.
This role is based at our Redfern National Services Support Centre, with one day work from home available after 6 months of employment.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Own and evolve system architecture across cloud platforms, integrations, data systems, and field technology
- Define and enforce engineering standards, patterns, and non-functional requirements including performance, reliability, security, and cost
- Guide technical direction across development teams through design reviews and architectural governance
Engineering Delivery & Mentorship
- Lead and mentor engineers and developers within a strong, productive technical team
- Support teams with complex problem-solving and implementation decisions
- Ensure delivery balances speed with long-term maintainability and operational stability
Platforms, Infrastructure & Operations
- Own and manage AWS infrastructure, including cost monitoring, optimisation, and capacity planning
- Implement and oversee security controls, access management, and permissions
- Ensure effective monitoring, logging, and alerting across production systems
- Act as senior escalation point for operational and production issues
Core Systems & Data
- Take ownership of major internal integration platforms and APIs
- Own and evolve the organisation’s data lake, data pipelines, and reporting capabilities
- Ensure data storage, schema design, and ETL processes are reliable and efficient
AI-Enabled Ways of Working
- Champion the practical use of AI tools to improve engineering productivity and operational efficiency
- Guide responsible adoption of AI-assisted development aligned with security and governance requirements
Skills & Experience
Required
- Senior engineering experience with responsibility for architecture and production systems
- Strong background in backend development, distributed systems, and integrations
- Hands-on experience managing AWS environments and cloud infrastructure
- Strong understanding of security principles, access control, and role-based permissions
- Experience operating systems with real performance, reliability, and support requirements
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Technical Skills
- Backend development with Node.js, Python, or similar
- Strong experience with APIs, integrations, webhooks, and event-driven systems
- Experience with databases and data platforms such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Athena, and data lakes
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation
- Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration including Docker, ECS, EKS, and Kubernetes
- Understanding of logging, monitoring, and alerting systems
Desirable
- Experience with biometric or identity-related systems
- Exposure to data visualisation and reporting platforms
- Experience supporting field-deployed or event-based technology
- Experience introducing AI-assisted engineering practices
About You
You will be well suited to this role if you are:
- Pragmatic, accountable, and outcomes-focused
- Comfortable operating across architecture, delivery, and operations
- Calm under pressure in live operational environments
- A clear communicator who collaborates effectively across technical and non-technical teams
